ABSA Home Owners Insurance

In 2019-04-15 my solar geyser burst. After contacting ABSA they send out a plumber who only informed us that they will fix the problem as soon as possible. The problem then escalated when they could not replace my solar geyser with the same spec as it is not the one they use and they didn't have stock. Also informed me that they will replace it with another type of geyser but due to the fact that this was a more expensive one I had to pay extra. Numerous calls later and with water running 24/7 for three days I was informed that I will be given a cash amount in order to find my own plumber and to sort it out by myself. A new solar geyser was installed by a registered company and qualified plumber the next day. Now a week ago I was awaken by the sound of my solar geyser crashing to the floor into my swimming pool damaging the pool. Called ABSA and again a plumber arrived only to inform me that ABSA will not cover the damage as the geyser was not correctly fastened to the roof. Now here is something I do not understand. According to ABSA we are responsible to ensure that everything is correctly installed by professionals. I mean really, they expect a person who knows nothing of plumbing to inspect the work of a plumber. Its like asking an newly born baby to check on the work done by their father. Are we expected to to check the work of qualified professionals having no idea what to check for? Are we supposed to climb into ceilings and on top of the roofs and inspect everything? How the hell does ABSA expect their clients who has no expertise in a certain field to check on the work done by experts. The only reason that I had to arrange a plumber in the first place was because ABSA send out a company that took their time to fix my problem, and in the end could not fix it because they had no experience in solar geysers, and didn't have any stock of the geysers. So please lets get the facts if you are dealing with any claim. If ABSA takes their time in resolving your claim and dont worry about you not having any discomfort for a couple of days, and if you have to resolve it by yourself, take note that they will turn a blind eye for any claim on work not done by a team of their choosing. In fact they will also not cover you for any other damages that was caused by you trying to solve their problem.

The insurance we pay every month buys you the following: Discomfort for not having any hot water for three days during the winter An water bill for three days looking at how it flows A cellphone bill for trying to sort things out because they dont call you back and a year later you have to be an expert on everything cause its up to you to look after experts.

At least it is good to know that you may still ensure with another company even if you have a bond at a bank.

We refer to the abovementioned claim. We have reviewed the claim for the damage to your property. Given the circumstances of the loss and the applicable policy terms and conditions, we regret to advise you that your claim has been rejected. During the assessment of your claim, we established the following: • The geyser fell off your roof and into your pool due to a faulty installation. • This fibre glass of your swimming pool cracked due to the impact. • Your geyser installation was conducted by your own service provider. • The damage to your swimming pool is due to the defective workmanship of your service provider. • The damage to your swimming pool cannot be attributed to an insured peril as detailed in your insurance policy. • Your Absa Home Owners Comprehensive insurance policy excludes cover in instances where the damage to your property cannot be attributed to an insured event. • In light of the above, we have no option but to decline your claim in its entirety.
So like stated above you receive a courtesy call only to inform you what you already know. That they are useless and then you pay the penalty.
So either wait for them to fix it on their own time or you will have to pay for everything.
Well I'm not happy to wait.
You don't wait for our money to be paid. You miss it with one day and then you're not covered. But you have to wait 3 days for a geyser to be fixed.
There is always plenty of excuses when it comes to service delivery.
I actually want to thank you for a lesson learned.
Rather insure with a company that cares

Just look above: Computer generated messages from ABSA.
The same one as before, WOW

I don't believe any of these messages are even read by Rezona Louw. Some poor customer consultant provides feedback.
I dont want to be refunded. I already repaired the geyser and is busy with the swimmingpool.
I just want to let the people know what to expect from ABSA. That we are just a number paying insurance to them every month and they trying their best to save money by every means possible.
They only look at the fact that the last time we had work done on our geyser was by someone not employed by them. They don't go and look at the fact that they (ABSA) forced us to source our own plumber' because the plumbers they assigned to us could not assist us. They don't take the responsibility to care. This whole situation is due to them not wanting to replace my solar geyser with the same type as it were more expensive during 2019.
Well I am sorry to say, if I have a 200 liter solar geyser and it breaks, I expect it to be replaced by a 200 liter solar geyser. If you dont have my brand then its your problem, but no, you made it my problem. You forced me to assign a plumber not assigned by ABSA. This after waiting 3 days. And yes go and check your records, I had to keep calling as nothing happened from your side.
And yes go and check your records and see if I dont have the correct facts.
Prior to the geyser incident it was a leaking pipe in my wall.
Here again I had issues with ABSA.
They only covered one wall of tiles in my bathroom. Why? Because they (ABSA) only worked on one wall in the bathroom. The fact that the bathroom is fully tiled is my problem. The fact that the same tile is no longer available is also my problem. Now I have three walls fully tiled in one colour and one tiled by another type of tile.
Seems that everytime I claimed from (ABSA) them theres an issue.
The whole idea of insurance is to replace and repair the item, for it to be the same as before. Not for it to be in a worst state.
Enough said, and please dont generate another message from the computer.
And please, dont ask ask some consultant to provide us with feedback.
This is only to assist others in making an informed decision when selecting their insurance.
I am pleased to say that I already enquired with another insurance company to assist me.
