ABSA home insurance not honoring a valid claim

Here is my experience with Absa Home Insurance.

During a hail storm in 2020, a lot of water was running down a wall in my house and the laminated flooring was damaged. I claimed for the damage and a contractor was assigned to assess the damage. This contractor wanted to replace the whole floor area and not just the damaged portion apparently due to the availability of the flooring used. I've sent an email to Absa to query it as this is a waste of money. An Absa assessor came out which resulted in my claim being rejected due to their claim that the damage was caused by rising groundwater and not one incident. I referred the matter to the ombudsman where I proofed through video evidence that their statement is not true and that water was indeed running down the wall. In their closing statement to the ombudsman, Absa suddenly made two statements that are totally not true and caused the ombudsman to close my case without offering me the opportunity to react to these statements.

Firstly they said the damage occurred in 6 different rooms which are not possible due to one leak. - this is not true, the damage only occurred in the immediate surrounding area. Secondly they attached a weather report to state there was no rain in my area for that day. - this is also not true, I've got a newspaper article to describe the extensive damage caused by a storm on that specific day.

I feel victimised by Absa and was not treated fairly. I’m wondering what would’ve happened if I didn’t say anything when the original contractor wanted to replace the whole floor area wasting money. By being honest and looking out for the insurer my claim was denied in an ********* way.

Absa rep**** and refered to the fact that the ombudsman ruled in their favour. They missed the fact that they (Absa) provided incorrect facts to the ombudsman which resulted in the ruling from the ombudsman in their favour without an opportunity offered to me to gave the correct facts. This is ********* behaviour. If they have read my original review they would have seen this.
