ABSA Funeral Cover on Savings Account

My wife's mother passed away recently and she has a R150000 funeral cover on her savings account. However to get this money paid out has been a real hassle. Absa requires a Letter of Authority which you have to get at your local magistrates court.

This is a very troublesome procedure as one has to stand in long queues and get send all over town to get various documents.

In a time that a loved one has passed away I think all this trouble is very unnecessary. Especially if you have the death certificate, the marriage certificate, the notice of death and the I.D document of the person who passed away.
