ABSA, ***** on Credit Card Account

I recently transferred funds from my cheque account to my credit card account. I made a couple of small transactions, the third was declined though there should have been more than sufficient funds to cover the transaction. I also received an SMS stating I was R33 over my limit (???). I checked my account online when I got home - no recorded transactions. I have just check again now - no transactions. Phoning ABSA Credit Card Division is no help at all - it is simply automated voice prompts with no options for this problem. I have just called ABSA ***** Hotline, only to be hung up on twice after giving my card number. On the second call, the operator asked me if I was S. Doyle before the call abruptly ended. Doyle is the surname of my fiance but the initial is incorrect.

It is now obvious there is ********** activity on this account but ABSA, in effect, refuses to deal with it. I would like someone from ABSA to contact me urgently please. It is absolutely incredible that neither the card nor ***** hotline are able to do anything.

Is it even safe to use a bank in 2021? Anyone can simply 'tap' a card as if it was cash with no PIN number, no signature check. So essentially any available funds are accessible as cash to a *****. This is worse than simply carrying cash, where at least the amount of cash carried can be limited.

Further to this review, I did manage to contact the ABSA ***** hotline. After explaining my situation, I was informed they could not help me as I did not answer all my security questions correctly. Sure - I'm the *********, trying to pay INTO one of my own accounts LOL. Not a problem, I will not be transferring any further funds into this account. But I do want it ON RECORD that I attempted to get to the bottom of the problem and rectify it. When I'm next in town I will stop by the police station and enquire whether I can open a case of ***** against ABSA.

Writing on Monday 8th March 20212, 1.03 pm, ABSA have still not resolved this. I have received an SMS stating that R33 is overdue and this may affect my credit rating. This is despite recently transfering R500 into the account. I can only assume from this that ABSA do not value me as a client, despite banking with them since 1998. A pity, but oh well...

I have un-linked my old credit card and linked the new one as advised by ABSA. Why it was necessary for me to do this as a client is unclear, but OK. However, the R500 I transfered to the old account is 'missing'. There is no point trying to contact ABSA directly as they are so unhelpful. It is high time there were public, forensic investigations into the conduct of banks in South Africa.
