ABSA ***** of ±R140,000.00

Dr HELLMUT LOEST ABSA ACC ********** 0347. TEL ********** 807.

we suspect that this ***** alreadyl started on 14/3/17 when my wife received a phone call from someone claiming to be from a security company working for Micro Soft. My wife very shortly after this call called the ABSA ***** line and asked that the internet banking was frozen. She also asked that the bank accounts on our internet banking should be blocked, but it wasn’t done. An amount of R4221.99 was drawn from her credit card account at that stage. She went to the bank and got a new pin and password and everything was activated and we could do our normal online banking again.

Whether there is a relation to the two lines of crime, we don’t know.

The actual ***** on my bank account happened on the morning of the 25 March 2017. I did my last internet transaction on 23/03/2017 and drew a statement.

Saterday morning 25/3/17 I got a message on my cell phone that a sim swap was going to take place at 7h00 on my phone. This was reported to MTN Sasolburg and I received a new sim card and the old sim card was cancelled. I was told that this usually happens when banking ***** is planned. A sim swap is done so that the victim won't receive any notifications of transactions done on his bank account.

It was only when my wife received a message on her cell phone at 11h50 on Saturday 25 March 2017, that R5301.00 was drawn from her bank account that she suspected *****. The ABSA ***** line was contacted again and she asked them to stop our internet banking again and they only stopped her bank account. During this phone call she could manage to go into ‘once off payments’ and noticed that multiple payments of R5000.00 plus were made, however these ********** transactions out of my bank account didn’t stop after she asked them to block the internet banking but continued until late in the afternoon. It was only when I myself called the ***** line ***that I was told that the transactions were still taking place. The name of the lady I spoke to was Mzuzu Neziwe. She then said that she had stopped our internet banking and also blocked all our accounts. Mzuzu was very helpful.

Are these people at the ***** line perhaps part of a syndicate doing these ********** transactions? We do suspect seriously that this is an inside information job at ABSA and expect that an investigation should be done inside the bank where this problem most probably originated

After two days and many hours spending in police offices, banks and MTN as well as numerous telephone calls, we now have many documents should it be needed in this complaint. The total amount that was ****** amounted to R138,691.00.

ABSA ***** case AS2A-1 ********** 1

After the ***** happened on the 25 March, I reported it in an email to the ABSA ***** department on the same day in order for ABSA to open a ***** case. I received an automated response. Nobody in person.

On Monday 27/3/17 my wife and I visited the ABSA branch in the Vaal Mall and received forms to be completed and which were sent to ABSA. We received a response notifying us that Ayanda Ngwaqa will contact me soon. On 1/4/17 I wrote an email to Ayanda as I had not heard anything from her yet. No response. I phoned ***on 7/4/17 to ask hear whether she received my letter. Another lady informed me that Ayanda had received my letter and will contact me if necessary. On 12 April, I received an sms saying that Ayanda will contact me.

The initial case number, when speaking to Mzuzu Neziwe was ********** . A Police case number was given to us on 27 March 2017, being 228/03/2017.

Three things really make me very unhappy.

1. No direct contact to me from Ayanda.

2. After contacting my business consultant at ABSA in Vanderbijlpark, Martha, (who was very helpful) applying for a higher daily limit in order for the debit orders to be paid on the 1st April, it was declined. The ******s were allowed to draw as much money as they wanted, but my request to meet my obligations, was declined. After 50 years at ABSA which used to be Volkskas and thereafter Trust Bank before ABSA, having 3 bonds, one of my office and two house bonds as security, I am convinced that I do qualify for much more than I have asked for.

3. On the day of the ***** my wife got a message about money being drawn out of her bank account and only then she realised that there was ***** happening on our accounts. She phoned 08 ********** 0, was referred to the ***** department at more or less 12 o’clock, and requested that our bank accounts be closed as well as to stop all access to our internet banking which wasn’t done. The person she spoke to, informed her that he would only close her account. The access number to all these accounts is ********** 347. I haven’t received any notifications of these withdrawals on my cell phone, because someone did a sim swop on my phone to enable these ******s to draw as much money as they could without interference. I suspect that he sim swop was already done at ± 4h00 on the morning of the 25th March.

I called again that afternoon at approximately 16h00 talking to Mzuzu Neziwe who’s reaction was: “yoo! I see a lot of movement on your account”. Access to our accounts and internet banking site was not stopped as requested by my wife earlier that day at noon. I then asked her to please close all our accounts which she then did.

We went on leave on the 14th April till the 21 April and on the 23/4 I had to pay accounts on my HC Loest ********** 0347 account and on Loest Firtz and Erasmus account ********** 0343 and received a message: “Ons het onreëlmatigheid op jou rekening bespeur en as voorsorgmaatreël sekere transaksies vir jou beskerming versper. ****ak asseblief ***”. Why do they now suddenly pretend to protect me. For how long are they going to prevent me from paying my own accounts? Suddenly they close my account after one drawing of R6000.00 but on the 25th March 26 drawings were transferred to a Mr Berger, R45,000.00 was taken from a home loan and nobody did anything to stop them.

I called the above number and spoke to Gaositwe who said she can’t do anything and I must contact *****line or AYANDA tomorrow, 24/4. Why are there so many *********** people working for ABSA?

I then received a call from Mpho who said he was from ABSA *****line and noticed that I wanted to draw money. I asked him whether he was a ********* as well and how can I believe him that he is actually an employee working for the ***** department. He was kind enough to tolerate me. He verified my particulars and said he will open my accounts again and that on my request he will ask Ayanda to contact me, as on 3 occasions I have requested her to contact me which she didn’t do. I needed to hear from her what progress has been made with our ***** case and what can I expect from ABSA. I wonder whether she actually exists at all!!!

It seems I have no other alternative than to write this letter to you for help as I found myself in a dead end, being a month after this ***** had happened.

Hellmut Loest.
