Absa ***** Credit Card - A must read . DO NOT USE ABSA EVER !
On the 3rd of September i woke up to a debit order going off on MY HUSBANDS CHEQUE ACC . The amount was for R8165.82 with ref : Absa Card ***. I called Absa direct and ask them what this debit order was for and they said i should call my bank FNB. I said no i have a reference number please see if you cannot pick anything up. Well to my suprise i was informed that i , Barbara-Ann Jekels was the proud owner of a brand new credit card. I asked when did i get it and was informed last month (August 2019) and that i app**** for it on the 5th of July for it. I asked where did i sign for it and they said it was hand delivered to me "face to face" in Johannesburg. (note that i stay in Nelspruit and have not been to Joh in months) I asked if the debit order is for R8165 what is the credit limit ? A whopping R210 000.00 . I then asked what is the balance on this card and was told it is empty . The amount of R210 000 was spend within a month and the R8165 was the first repayment. The consultant told me he can see alot of *****ulant transactions and that he will refer this card to the ***** department. So our conversation ended. I went to the Police station same day and got a affidavit onfirming that i never app**** for a Absa Credit Card and that i did not give consent to a debit order of my husbands personal cheque account. The case number and affidavit was sent to Absa ***** division the same day. In the meantime the police came to pay me a visit (extremely impressed with their efficient service from the moment i registered case to the visit.) I did receive one email from them asking me for the following details :
Good day

So today this continues i call to speak to the honourable Mr Wandile Mhlongo the so called Specialist Investigator. I was told that i am not allowed to speak to him and that if i want assistance i need to go the my nearest Absa Bank and request all the information they stated in the email above only then will ABSA assist me with a ***** case. If they do not have this info then they cannot help me. This after is was emailed to them on varions emails.
A few questions to Absa as stated in my mails to them
1. What security checks did Absa do when approving this card. 2. Based on what income calculation was this amount approved. 3. According to your consultant Mrs B Jekels signed for this card face to face in Johannesburg. We don’t live in Johannesburg. 4. Upon speaking to the first consultant this morning he said immediately that he can see this is a *****ulant account how come no one else picked this up? 5. Who approved the debit order for a third parties account. 6. What Fica prosesses was followed. What credit checks was done. What affordibiltiy checks was done.
I was informed by Absa that i will be laible for this account until such time that the case is solved. I need ABSA to sort this out.
