ABSA & FNB ***** departments poor service

On the 22nd July 2017 we visited the Greenstone Mall ABSA branch to report a case of payment *****. We were advised by the consultants in the bank that we need to contact the ABSA ***** department, who would assist to resolve the matter. We then called the ***** department from the branch and spoke to a consultant, who advised that he has contacted FNB regarding the payments that were made into one of their clients’ accounts and that account has subsequently been blocked. The ABSA consultant then advised that we should go to the police station and open a case of ***** against the supplier, and send thru the proof of payments, together with the case number and an affidavit to both ********** and frm.payment ********** , all of this was done on the 22 July 2017. To date we have not had any response from both ABSA and FNB regarding this case. I have called the ABSA ***** department several times to follow up on the status of this case, and have been advised that that it would take anything from 1 – 3 weeks to receive feedback. However, on the automated responses received from the above mentioned e-mail addresses, it states that we would receive feedback within 48 hours.

I find this service to be exceptionally poor, as we have paid over an amount of R 287 600.00 to a ********** supplier and need to have these funds reversed as a matter of urgency. We have contacted the ABSA online division, who at first advised that they could reverse the funds if the account is still active and has not been blocked. I then advised the consultant that a case of ***** has been opened with their ***** department and the perpetrators account has been blocked from FNB, as advised by the ABSA ***** consultant. The online consultant then advised that a reversal would not be possible as the account is blocked and we need to wait for the ***** department to give us feedback.

It has been almost a week now and we still have not heard anything from both ABSA and FNB regarding this case. We should have, by now, received a reference number or case number which would reassure us that the matter has been handed over to a ***** Manager who would be looking into the case. FNB, having the perpetrators account details should be able to confirm if the funds are still available and if a refund is possible. This would give us peace of mind knowing that at the end of the investigation, we would receive the refund due to us. At the moment, not knowing where we stand has caused us to become anxious and extremely despondent. This has put us in a terrible financial position, making it almost unaffordable to live any more. We are currently in a financial predicament where we are unable to meet our monthly commitments.

We would really appreciate urgent feedback from both ABSA & FNB on the status of this case and when the funds would be reversed.
