ABSA FICA DEPARTMENT - AN EMBARRASSMENT FOR ABSA #stayawayfromabsa

In January 2016 my fica was done at ABSA branch Norwood Mall. Documants was verified and correct my fingerprints was taken .

On Friday afternoon 20 May 2016 i found my account blocked. When i phoned the fica call centre they first told me that they didn't accept a telkom account and change it to thats it older than 3 months. Well its now May obviously longer than 3 months. I could not get to a bank on Sa****ay. On Monday morning went back to Absa branch Norwood Mall and done it again. Documents and fingerprints. After many calls to fica help line and visits to the bank was told 24 to 48 hours.

On Tuesday 24May 2016 phoned again and heard now it's 2 to 3 days so whats next 4 months?

Absa could have phoned or e-mail me to tell me that they don't accept telkom account. I saw that they even got my work address . Now i'm stranded i need money to eat and get to work. My children are starving. It means if Absa norwood mall phone the police i can't be there to help them.

Absa now is hiding behind the fica law. Keep my money as long as they want. Fica law apperantly say they don't have to contact me Just freeze the account for as long as you want. Does fica law even require fingerprints? Am i a risk, a ******** or *********?

Quote from act "Applying a risk-based approach to the verification of the relevant particulars implies that an
accountable institution can accurately assess the risk involved. It also implies that an
accountable institution can take an informed decision on the basis of its risk assessment as
to the appropriate methods and levels of verification that should be app**** in a given
circumstance. An accountable institution should therefore always have grounds on which it
can base its justification for a decision that the appropriate balance, referred to above, was
struck in a given circumstance."

AND

"The combination of the Act and the Regulations require that accountable institutions identify all clients with whom they do business unless an exemption applies in a given
circumstance. However, institutions are not required to follow a one-size-fits-all
approach in the methods they use and the levels of verification they apply to all relevant
clients. "
