ABSA FICA Block

On 25/02/2019 after traveling 200kms for training, I realized that there was a block on my ABSA cheque account. I wanted to use my card to fill up the car to get home and was unable to use it.

I phoned head office and they informed me that my account was blocked due to FICA documents outstanding. Never have I received a sms or email, that they require these documents and that ABSA wil block my account if I fail to provide the with the documents!

I managed to speak to a very helpful consultant who was eager to help me, the only thing was that I was 200km away from home and was unable to get hold of the document they needed! This is a ID and proof of address! I had to make other arrangements in order for me to be able to travel home!

On Saturday 24/02/2019 I visited my nearest branch an provided them with the documents and it was sent to head office. Today Monday 25/02/2019 my account is still blocked! I can’t do any of my monthly payment! I wonder if ABSA will call them and explain? I visited the branch again and the had to go through the whole process again!

Not once have I received any notification that they are blocking my account and the reasons for it!

I am truly disappointed in ABSA! I grew up with this bank! My first savings account as a kid was with them, then it became a student cheque account and later a normal cheque account! I have even bought my first house with ABSA by my side!

After this ordeal, I realized that it was the last time my salary was paid into my ABSA account! I am moving to another bank!

As consumer we are dependent on banks and the service they deliver! I need a bank on which I can rely any time!
