ABSA fails private banking client

As a private banker with ABSA, I have been left with no access to my funds via credit card, debit card and ATM withdrawals for over 24 hours and over a long weekend.

I had to walk out of the pharmacy this morning as my cards declined. I spent over 20mins on a call to ABSA where they informed me that it's due to maintenance that started at midnight and they have no timeline of when it would be resolved. I logged a formal ticket. They called back (as I asked them to keep me informed) before 4pm and told me it was resolved. At 7:30pm I had to leave my groceries at the till as my cards declined yet again.

I SMSed my private banker who gave me a 24/7 support number to call. It doesn't operate after hours due to Covid-19. Then I was told it may not be resolved tomorrow either as it's a public holiday and certain departments are not operational.

I cannot draw cash, use cash send option or use any of my cards. I have less than a quarter tank of fuel and no access to my money.

ABSA claim they sent out notification of maintenance, however I never received it via email, SMS or even on my mobile banking app. I am in fact still waiting on this illusive notification.

This is completely unacceptable!

Reviewer Update
Good day Nthabiseng,

Apologies do not suffice in these circumstances. It is completely unacceptable as of last night I was still not able to use my cards or even draw funds.

ABSA could have been of service, but that ship has sailed!

Your response is expected and therefore no points scored on ABSA's side!

And as for "inconvenience", you have to be kidding if you think it is simply just that! I am not able to do grocery shopping, fuel up my vehicle and have had to beg to do EFT with the pharmacy in order to get my chronic medications. I work full time and would only be able to verify this mess has been resolved when I attempt to pay for my scheduled medical IV treatment on Friday 14th Aug (at the time of swiping my card).

In this day and age, I would expect policies to be in place to ensure the well being of your client base!

Regards
Jackie
