I'm so disappointed in ABSA Estate / Trust division. My father passed away at the age of 81. He had nothing on his name except for a house paid for via a bond through ABSA. He was married in community of property and the house was on his and my mother's (78) name. He had no policies, no investments, no pension, nothing but the house. Now ABSA quoted my mother R70,000-00 to handle and finish the estate. Money which she does NOT have. There is no way that she can cover the cash shortfall. To sell the house is no option for her because then she has nowhere to go. I did write a motivation to Absa Trust to explain the situation and ask to renounce as I could find a company to help her with the whole process at half the price. ABSA REFUSED. Why??? They feel nothing for you as a person. They have their fees and they want to make their money. NO MERCY. They don't care about the elderly and what the consequences of their decisions are. At the age of 78 she must now apply for a loan which will be declined I'm sure. She is a nervous wreck to say the least! My mother has been a client of ABSA all her life and when she really needed them they failed her miserably.
