ESTATE: EM SMIT - ID *** My mother-in-law died on the 24th of November 2021 and Absa was informed of her death as her will was with Absa. Initially the service was good. Somebody phoned and informed us of all the requirements. Then the estate was handed over to attorneys (MMH). We submitted all the required documents to the attorneys. The process started and an adverti*****t appeared in the newspaper. We later followed up with the attorneys. After a further follow-up, the attoneys informed us on 14/09/2022 that they were still waiting for bank certificates to be provided by Absa. They contacted Absa just to be informed that the certificates would be submitted shortly. Later the attorneys informed me that they were still waiting for Absa - many certificates of ALL their cases were still outstanding. Then I sent 2 emails to Absa Estates to enquire about the certificates. They did not even reply. I also mentioned the problem to our local Absa (Cape Gate) and they could also not provide any answers. Further follow-ups with the attorneys also just confirmed that they were still waiting for Absa. How difficult can it be just to provide certificates when they were informed of her death more than a year ago? My father-in-law was an Absa client for his whole life and his estate was handled rather quickly. I am also a client of Absa my whole life. I have never experienced such pathetic service!
