Absa estate and deceased account closures are not doing their jobs
Absa's starting process to start an estate was efficient and the staff was helpful. Absa then assigned attorneys to the estate. Everything seemed to be going smoothly, all paperwork and the legal steps completed without any hassle. Then came time for Absa to close the deceased's accounts and transfer the funds to the attorneys, for them to start paying out to the relevant parties and heirs. The attorneys have been battling since March 2024 for Absa to close the accounts and transfer the funds into the estate accounts. The only response the attorney gets is a generic copy and paste response for Absa that "they are verifying the details". The attorney suggested that perhaps I should contact Absa. Absa promised me that they will be done within 7 days of my call dated 18 July. The attorney and their boss contacted Absa again in mid August for follow up from the my calls to Absa, only to yet again to get the generic copy paste response. I find Absa's disregard to the financial wellbeing of the heirs to estates by delaying the release of the funds to the estate both disgusting and hipocratical. I have been put in a situation where the death of a family member has add additional mothly financial burdens on me and I am unable to solve and prevent these expenses until the money is released. I am now at a point where the waiting for the funds to be released and the additional expenses added to me has left me having used up my savings and now in a situation where I don't know how to afford to continue. I am at a place where I have to choose in either dropping the expenses and assets from the estate or paying my rent.
