Absa does not want you to be debt free

I have an overdraft facility with Absa which I am in the process of
reducing (I want to get out of debt) Last year I spoke to my personal
banker at Fourways branch and asked them to reduce my overdraft by
R1000 a month. It was no problem, I wasn’t asked to go into the branch, I wasn’t asked to fill in forms or anything. They executed my request telephonically Monday I phoned Absa to ask for my OD to be reduced by a further R1000 (while still keeping the monthly reduction going) I was told that it cannot be done. I was told that I should put my money in a savings account and when I have accumulated the total of the overdraft I should pay it into the account and phone the credit department and they will clear my overdraft
I think that was the most distasteful answer ANY institution could give to anyone. Absa should be ashamed of themselves for having such dumb rules and regulations. I have a Standard bank account and I can increase or decrease my limit while sitting in the comfort of my home.

Im so done with ABSA
