ABSA do not close pensioner's account

Mr Father closed his account in Piet Retief Brach. He was instructed to withdraw the surplus amount and the consultant told him that the account is now closed.

He has now received several calls from your collections department for who still believe the account is open

We have made several calls to the bank and we are passed from one department to the next

We requested a recording of the discussion we had Ref ***1 with one of the agents. We were told that the amount in arears due to the failure of the Piet Retief branch to close the account will be paid into my father’s account. He must not touch the money and headoffice will then close the account.

We also spoke to the dept collections department who told us we need to go back to the branch. My dad is 81 and do not live in Piet Retief any more.

Now they want him to travel 300 Km for correcting an ABSA admin mistake.

Cannot believe they trying this with elderly people
