ABSA Deceased estate.
My mum passed away. i was appointed executor. No security had to be provided according to the will. I have letters of executorship from the Master. i am qualified to handle a deceased estate, without the assistance from an attorney. My mum has 3 investments at Absa. i asked Absa to open an estate Late account twice at the Menlyn branch. The customer services manager is Liesel. They refused twice. The ABSA National deceased estates department ( Lerato ) confirmed that i could open the account because I had a letter of executorship, and not a Letter of authority.
But then she said that in order to transfer the amounts to the Estate late account, i would need an attorney, because it was over R250000.. And the attorney had to provide security. This ignores my qualification, ignores the Masters confidence in my appointment, and now insists on the appointment of an attorney, contrary to the masters wishes. I have communicated with the Master, and it is clear that Absa are doing their own thing, and not honouring the Masters Letter of executorship. i do not think that people should invest in ABSA to create problems at a critical time like this. Nedbank and Standard Bank do not have these problems.
