I received a call (14-Sep-2023; 15:09) from a "Colin" ***) claiming to be from the Absa Rewards team claiming that I have around 2500 rewards that is about to expire and he wants to help me to convert and transfer the Rand amount of just of R900 to my account.
He wanted to start the process by sending me a couple SMSes contain OTPs to make the transfer successful.
After telling him I have not signed up for Absa rewards because there is no value in it compared to FNB's eBucks he said that the Rewards is visible on my App and bank statements; which it wasn't.
He was suppose to send me an email that highlights my Rewards and will call me back in a few minutes but he did not.
Key points: 1. He had my middle and last name but not my first name 2. He had my ID number 3. It is either my information was sold OR there has been a data breach/leak 4. I've had a similar experience before and Absa's response was shocking
Questions for Absa: 1. Do you want customers to lose everything before you take complaints seriously 2. Why/how has my information been exposed AGAIN - if it wasn't, I would not have had this experience
Let's wait to see how you deny this and give me your policies on how personal information is protected but STILL leaked!
To all Absa customers, please very extra vigilant.
