ABSA Credit Card Nightmares

On the 02/02/2017 I did a credit card application. I was notified online that this was approved with a limit of R7500 and I should submit documents to an email address provided. On the 02/02/2017 at 13:06pm I had submitted documents.

On the 03/02/2017 I had called the ***and here I was told that the application was declined and no further explanation was provided. I then contacted another bank and my application was also approved. I was told to bring in my documents within 5 business days to accept the offer.

On Monday I received a call from the courier company claiming that he needed to deliver my ABSA credit card. Arrangements were made for a delivery on Wednesday. On Wednesday 08/02/2017 I received the said cards and called card division and was advised that I should destroy the cards as the credit card application was declined. So it told her that a credit card profile was created on my cheque account and R160 was already deducted as an initiation fee. We ended the call.

I called ABSA pavilion and spoke to Nadeem who advised that he would contact card division and get back to me – but didn’t hear from him.

At approx 6pm yesterday, I dialled ********** 273 option 6 and entered the card details and the pin number was read out to me. I then went on to speak to a consultant who told me that the application was approved. I asked are u sure? Was placed on hold and she came back saying that it was approved and that she has sent a request to activate the card. So I told her what happened earlier and she says she needs to talk to a team leader. I was placed on hold again and then she comes back and says sorry its declined.

So today the 9th, I went to ABSA in Windermere Durban and spoke to a consultant and according to her the profile was created and the account was approved but it was placed on hold because it was pending authorisation for the limit of R7500. She attempted to activate the card and it was unsuccessful. She asked me to hold on to the cards and “wait and see “what happens.

Now at approximately 14:45pm 09/02/17 I received the feedback from Nadeem who says that the card was declined. The credit card profile will be closed and the R160 transaction fee will be reversed. He further advised me not to complain and that he would SMS me a reference number for the complaint that they had logged on my behalf - nothing has come through ***.

Truly pathetic customer service from ABSA.

Now whilst living in uncer*****y with ABSA, I had app**** with another institute and they didn’t have any problems with approving a limit of almost 5x that of ABSA. So whilst I have no option but to go with that bank, I will use this as an opportunity to relieve myself of the ABSA curse and in doing so I will close my cheque account before end of February 2017.

Apply for credit to any other bank except ABSA
