ABSA CREDIT CARD LIFE INSURANCE A *******
I've had my ABSA credit card for almost 20 years now and I have been paying the credit life insurance monthly. In December 2023 I was retrenched, and a friend told me that if I am paying insurance on the credit card that I should submit a claim. I enquired and submitted all the necessary documentation. My retrenchment was voluntary, however if I had not volunteered, I would still have been retrenched. After submitting the documentation it took ABSA more than 2 weeks to get hold of my employer, which is highly impossible, they claim that nobody answered the switchboard, and this is highly unlikely. I eventually assisted with my line manager's mobile number and email address. They emailed him two questions; "Was the retrenchment voluntary?" and "If I did not volunteer would I have been retrenched either way?" He answered yes to both questions as I would have been retrenched either way. The consultant then calls me to advise that my claim was rejected as the retrenchment contract states that it was a mutual agreement. YES, it was because if I did not agree to accept the offer i would have been forcibly retrenched. So why go through the process of contacting my employer who tells you in writing that they would have retrenched me if you are declining my claim due to the fact that the contract says "MUTUAL"....HELLO ABSA, I WOULD HAVE LOST MY JOB IRRESPECTIVE OF WHETHER OR NOT I AGREED TO THE VOLUNTARY OPTION. IN OTHER WORDS, ABSA I WAS FORCED TO SIGN THE MUTUAL AGREEEMENT!!!!! And what makes angrier is that they don't settle the credit card they only settle a month installment, with the unemployment rate being as high as it is and the economy being completely f****** they only assist with months, but I am not privy to that as I volunteered but let's not forget that I had no choice but to volunteer. So, there is proof as per my employer's response that it was inevitable, yet you still decline my claim!!!!! You are not a bank for the people!!!!!
