Absa ***** case
Subject: Four Months Later – Still Waiting for Proper Investigation into ***** Case
I am extremely disappointed by the way my ***** case has been handled by ABSA.
On 17 February 2026, I reported a ***** incident and opened a ******** case with the SAPS. I submitted my affidavit, case number, and all supporting documents to ABSA immediately.
A caller who appeared on my phone as "ABSA ***** Department" contacted me and had extensive knowledge of my personal banking information, including my account details, my husband's account details, and our credit card information. During this incident, R65,000 was transferred into an ABSA Vault Account and a further R7,210 was spent on our credit card, resulting in a total loss of R72,210.
For nearly four months, my husband and I have experienced tremendous stress. We have made numerous calls, visited branches repeatedly, submitted documents, and followed every instruction given to us. Yet it appears that very little progress has been made.
After almost four months, we have now been informed that it will take another 15 to 20 working days for an answer. Even more concerning is that ABSA has only now decided to investigate my husband's account, despite the fact that the money was taken from his account and all relevant information was provided from the beginning.
This raises serious questions:
- Were the documents and affidavit we submitted actually reviewed? - Why did it take four months to begin investigating all affected accounts? - Why has there been such a significant delay in handling this matter? - How was someone able to possess detailed confidential banking information belonging to both my husband and me?
As a long-standing ABSA customer, I find this level of service unacceptable. The financial loss is significant, but the emotional toll has been even greater. For four months we have lived with uncer*****y, sleepless nights, and the burden of constantly following up ourselves.
I am requesting urgent intervention from ABSA management, a full explanation regarding the delays, and clear feedback on the status of the investigation and recovery of our funds.
Customers deserve to be treated with urgency, transparency, and respect when they become victims of *****. Case nr ASZA-2***7
