ABSA car finance *******ion ****

I recently had the misfortune of falling prey to what appears to be the latest in ****s of our financial services. I sadly defaulted on my vehicle finance. I was slightly behind and had spoken to someone over the phone and emailed to make an arrangement to catch up (I was behind by only R3000 which is one and a half payments) Up until then my payment history with them was exemplary and the arrears resulted because they claim could not find the EFT payments I had made when the debit order was returned. When the debit order failed again (as my salary had not cleared in time - it being paid in on the last day of the month, the car was repossessed. I was told it would be auctioned. I am still paying the full amount of the car they took as well as an additional R14 000. They have no explanation as to how this can happen. I have heard by others and now believe it to be true that as you near the end of your contract, having almost paid off your vehicle, any small default results in your vehicle being repossessed, given away at an auction to their own contacts for next to nothing and you have to pay off the remainder. How they get to add a further R14 000 I do not know. This is just another form of the *******ion we have in our country in all of the larger companies who see us the workers as prey for them to make more money off of. I'm not sure it the other banking financial houses operate in the same way but small print appears to be there to permit them to rob us rather than serve us.
