ABSA cant be trusted to protect their vulnerable clients

I wonder how many poor people banking with ABSA are being de*****ed without ABSA's protection in spite of publications saying that they verify debit orders against account holders.

My domestic worker has been debited an amount of R45 per month for years and has always thought it was bank charges until she received a second ********** debit against her account and came to me. She then went into the bank in Sandton City with my son and was given a fictitious phone number to call for the recipient of the debit order. The bank assistant then assured her that they would go back to 2014 and investigate and refund her from that date if there was a ********** charge against her. LO AND BEHOLD the following month (after we have a complaint in writing) she was debited again. I called the Assistant Manager who said they would refund the past 90 days and we then went straight to the bank. LO AND BEHOLD we then saw the bank manager who informed us that the only amount they would reverse was the one that was debited post the written complaint.

Dear Ros

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. Kindly provide us with your domestic workers account number in order for us log a formal complaint for investigation. Also use the private reply for me to see the details. We will investigate and provide you with feedback timeously.
