Absa Blocked My Account Without Proof — Biased, ********, and Damaging

On 2 July 2025, Absa blocked my account without warning, based on an unsubstantiated ***** allegation made by a well-connected businesswoman. I am a small business owner, and despite immediately submitting a sworn affidavit, proforma invoice, client communications, and proof that the transaction was never processed due to non-payment, Absa has continued to restrict my account without any proof of wrongdoing.

The bias in this matter is clear: Because the allegation came from a high-profile South African businesswoman, Absa accepted her word without demanding any evidence at the time of her complaint. Meanwhile, I have been treated as guilty from day one and forced to defend myself against an accusation with no legal or contractual basis.

To this day:

No ***** case has been opened with SAPS.

No investment policy or agreement has been presented (because none exists).

The matter is clearly a commercial dispute, not ******** *****.

Yet my account remains frozen, my business has suffered tens of thousands in losses, and my name may have been wrongfully flagged on ***** databases — all without due process.

This is not just bad service — it is a violation of my rights:

POPIA breached: My data was processed and flagged without lawful justification.

Section 22: My right to trade freely has been denied.

Section 25: I’ve been arbitrarily deprived of access to my funds.

Section 34: No fair process or hearing has occurred.

I have asked Absa repeatedly to:

Unblock my account

Clear my name

Provide proof of the complainant’s investment claim (which does not exist)

Notify other banks (such as FNB) that I am not guilty of *****

To date, I’ve received only vague replies, delays, and clear preferential treatment toward the complainant. It is deeply disappointing that a respected bank like Absa would act so negligently and biased, especially in a country where the law says innocent until proven guilty.

I will now be escalating this to:

The Ombudsman for Banking Services

The Information Regulator (for POPIA violations)

The Human Rights Commission

And taking legal action if necessary

Small business owners should not be destroyed by powerful clients who can weaponize ***** allegations without proof — and banks must be held accountable for enabling it.

Really one month was not enough time for absa to do their job?
I expect this to be sorted today!!!
Does absa staff lack basic skills required to perform their jobs adequately and without prejudicial judgments
Or maybe it's because I am indian , and clearly everyone handling this case is of the same race group as the
Accuser, so no evidence was needed from her ! Plus I'm just a small insignificant account, she is a big shot
Business entrepreneur, absa has never really wanted to have low income groups in their bank , now we can
Actually see this !

Absa real reply to me !

The complainant has indicated that she fell victim to a deposit **** related to an investment; however,
according to your records, the complainant made a purchase of a beauty machine from you.

Our forensics department has requested the sales communication between you and the complainant, as well as proof of delivery of the goods. Unfortunately, we have not yet received this documentation.

As a result, the hold on your account will remain in place until the requested evidence is submitted.

We recommend that you contact the purchaser who paid the money into your account to retract the complaint.

Based on the above our office considers the matter resolved and will be closing the file.

As you can all the the outcome remains biased

Investment ***** !
An allegation that Is completely unfounded with no evidence to support!
Were is the copy of the investment the client supposedly purchased and
supposedly Did not receive her returns?

I have sent in all the information that I had
What absa is asking me for Is to go and courier something I wasn't paid in full for
And I keep saying I provided yourl with a proforma invoice, and the sale was not
Yet processed based of incomplete payment!
Is this fair ?

What I see happenin here is absa is acting on behalf of the complainant’s allegations
And you didn't need any submissions from me , because prior to this I was already deemed
Guilty !!!

But because the this women handle the matter here is white and the reporting person
Is also with , the result is as clear as day !!!!

ABSA Froze My Account Without Proof – Ignored Evidence, Refused Transparency & Violated My Rights
Review Body:On 2nd July 2025, ABSA ********ly placed a restriction on my personal bank account based on a third-party complaint. I received no prior warning, no due process, and only learned of the issue after chasing down an explanation myself.When ABSA finally responded (Ref: C-***1), they claimed that someone reported me for a *****ulent transaction — yet they offered no proof, refused to provide the complaint, and took action against me without confirming my side of the story.They allege that the complainant was “****med” in an investment. That is completely false — the payment was for a product (a beauty machine) that was fully quoted and agreed upon. I was asked to provide “proof of delivery” and chat history, which I had already offered. ABSA ignored this and kept my funds frozen.Worse still:
  • They have not shared the original complaint or evidence submitted by the other party;
  • They refused my POPIA Section 23 request for access to my personal data and complaint documents;
  • And then claimed “the matter is resolved” — without releasing my money or addressing my complaint properly.
I’ve since escalated to:
  • The Information Regulator of South Africa for POPIA violations,
  • The National Financial Ombud Scheme (NFOSA) for abuse of process,
  • And I am pursuing legal advice to claim damages for the financial and emotional distress ABSA has caused me.
I’ve attached screenshots of ABSA’s own communication, clearly showing:
  • That they have no legal order or evidence against me;
  • That they admit to acting based on a customer report without proper verification;
  • That they refuse to give me access to the file, even after I formally requested it.
If this happened to me, it could happen to any ABSA client. This is unacceptable and dangerous. ABSA must be held accountable.
📎 Attached Screenshots:
  • Email from ABSA (Ref: C-***1) denying access to evidence
  • My formal demand under POPIA
  • ABSA's conclusion claiming “the matter is resolved” while still blocking my account
