ABSA BANK - WORST BANK EVER
I have had the same mortgage bond with Absa Bank since they were Al**** Bank, in other words, in total, for more than 30 years. I have never skipped a payment. About 18 years ago I registered a further bond and activated a flexi bond account and I have always made extra payments on my bond, which I could withdraw from again. It took several emails and follow up phone calls to cancel my home loan insurance as I was being charged way too much by Absa Insurance, so I changed insurerers. Things only progressed with the cancellation while I was holding on the line, nothing flowed internally. My confirmation of cancellation email said that I would receive a R15k refund on my bond account (which 2 weeks later has not yet happened), but almost worse than that, they just closed my access to my flexi balance without any notification to me. When I called this morning to query it, I was told that I would have to apply for my access to be reinstated via an emailed application form, proof of income, credit checks, etc, (which application form 3 hours later I have still not received) in other words take out a loan! This is absolutely shocking service to a long-standing client, to cancel my access without any forewarning. The consultant told me that Absa have changed the way they manage flexi bonds, but there's nothing about it in my emails or on the news. Horrible, horrible bank - I don't think anybody does any work there without you holding on the line while they do it and they certainly don't care if they leave you stranded without access to your own money.
