Absa bank *****sters
My name is Pumla Zwedala. I am using my son's profile to write this review. On the 21st of February, my Absa account was hacked. Someone bought a digital voucher of R500 and sent themselves another R500 from my credit card. I then contacted Absa bank ***** department to report the matter, and they told me the person had used my banking app to access my information.
Absa addressed the matter by blocking the app. The very same thing happened the day after, another R1000 had been withdrawn through the same process. I called the ***** department once again and got a different version of how my account was tampered with. The contact centre agent I was reporting to said the ***** gained access to my TruSave account by using my old contact number, which I hadn't used for the past 2 years, and a USSD number. He then said he would block my account.
On the 23rd, I visited Absa's Kempton Square branch to report on the past two days' events. I was then given a different story for the third time by a consultant. He said the ***** used my card number to access my account and had no knowledge of how this may have occurred.
I suspect that this was an inside job, as there is no way a stranger could have access to my old contact details and card numbers. I am extremely unhappy with Absa's services. They told me I should pay them back the money ****** FROM ME, and that my credit profile would be affected if I didn't. I feel as if they don't have any compassion for their clients. I still have to wait 21 days until the case has been investigated before I can be repaid the money I lost, and that is not guaranteed to happen
After throwing a fit and wanting to see the branch manager, they told me he/she was not in and contacted the manager of their ***** department, who later called while I was opening a case at a police station. He said to send them my case number and affidavit, and they would try to solve my issue as soon as they received it.
This is a fair warning to everyone who seeks to save their money at Absa. It is very unfair that we work hard to earn a living, only to be given the runaround by the very banks we trust to protect our accounts.
Best regards,
