Absa bank opens account and charges interest for an account you don't have

I went online mid February to apply for an Absa account. I didn't receive any feedback from them and decided to go with another bank. Months down the line, I am receiving messages and phone calls with computer voice messages to say that my account is in arrears???????? I have never stepped in an Absa bank to sign for any any card collection and when I phoned in today the only thing they can tell me is that there is an account opened in my name and that I should go to a branch with my query. The audacity that Absa has to tell me that I owe them R349.82 for an account that I have never used is rediculous!
