ABSA bank is being *********

My father passed away in July 2012 and had a loan with ABSA bank that was still outstanding. However, my mom and the rest of the family didn't know about it until his death. The contract loan that ABSA shown to my mom in 2012 after my father's death didn't have her signature on it, and they asked my mom to sign on a document three times to confirm the signatures. Which she did and it confirmed that she never signed the contract for my dad to get the personal loan and my mom thought the case was closed. Now all of a sudden my mom gets a letter from the lawyers on behalf of ABSA to say that she must pay the outstanding lump sum. However the co-operation from the lawyers is not so good and I'm beginning to doubt if they are indeed from ABSA bank. Please help clarify this issue as my mom thought it was already dealt with.
