ABSA BANK IGNORE PENSIONER

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I am writing on behalf of my wife’s 85 year old grandmother.

On 2 May 2016, she went to an ABSA ATM to withdraw her R1 000 pension for the month. The funds are held in a SASA account and she inadvertently did a transfer of R1 000 to account number *** in the name of Blue Token – for pre-paid electricity. She does however not have an account nor does she make use of pre-paid electricity. She immediately reported the error to ABSA that same day and now; 3 weeks later; is still waiting for her money to be refunded to her.

She has dealt with the following persons at ABSA Bank:

• Amanda – Branch Manager at ABSA Hayfields. She advised Mrs. Scoulelis that this was a “back office query” and they would attend to the reversal.
• She was referred to a Charlene on *** –she advised that the matter cannot be dealt with by her.
• Mrs. Scoulelis was then informed that the query lay with Lizette Coetzee; who allegedly has had the query on her desk for some 5 days now. The telephone number of Lizette Coetzee *** remains unanswered. Furthermore; attempts to reach Lizette Coetzee on cell *** have also been unsuccessful and there has been no response to messages left.
• The writer here sent a lengthy sms detailing the above to Lizette Coetzee on 21 May 2016 at 10.41 am and this message has to date; met with no response.

It is appalling to say the least that ABSA Bank have now deprived a 85 year old woman of her meagre pension of R1 000 to the extent that she has had to borrow money for food. Similarly; their “don’t care attitude” is totally unacceptable.

Mrs Scoulelis expects a refund of her R1 000 plus interest within 24 hours of receipt of this letter from ABSA BANK. .

DES SCHEEPERS
ON BEHALF OF MRS M.SCOULELIS
