Absa bank - Hidden high bank charges costs
I don’t know who to turn to at Absa Bank re my query/complaint.
I have been unemployed since 2017. Retrenched actually and have been an active job seeker. Covid has just worsened the situation. My savings account has been empty with no funds coming in. Due to no salary. With the result I have had bank charges accumulating due to stop orders bouncing. There were two: Telkom (R150 in bank charges alone).
I went into the bank to request them to please block Telkom from debiting my account. Absa said they were unable to do this or at least put a block on my account. I am not sure why as other people have been able to do this.
With the result I have now been told I owe R7000 and more in bank charges. This is extremely distressing to know.
I had to make my own enquiries on social media to contact Absa Bank as I wanted to settle the outstanding fees.
Not a single Absa consultant (in all these months, had the decency to contact me to ask what is happening about your account Ms Franks? They let this dead account accumulate all these bank charges and hidden costs. Hidden because it surely does not reflect on any of my bank statements. These are hidden costs between banks. Please check my bank statements to see whether I owe Absa bank more than R7000 in bank charges. I can’t see anything! I receive all my statements via email.
Absa bank I am unable to pay R7000 and more. I was told (as below) to go into the bank to sort this out. I am unable to do so due to Covid and the flu. I do not feel well!
If I have Covid I could be infecting people around me. As we all know so well.
Could someone at Absa bank please advise me on what I should do? I want to settle this and shut down this account.
But I cannot afford to pay a fee of R7000 which does not even reflect on my bank statement. Absa bank fees are extremely high. I have been with Absa bank since 1987 (33 years) but I cannot afford your bank charges anymore. My issue here is a case in point. At one point I had R500,000 in my savings account. Do a check - this was in 2010. Check out my profile. I had problems only after my retrenchment in late 2017.
But I still had funds in my account. It is now extremely distressing and unbelievable to know how much I owe in hidden bank costs. How many other consumers are in exactly the same position as me?
