ABSA Bank have designed their branches to deliberately keep disabled clients out
Last Thursday, My mom, a disabled pensioner had major problems physically entering ABSA branch at The Glen due to their “man trap” entrance. There was no security at the entrance to open the “normal” door to let her in. ABSA staff was unwilling to assist in any way. I had to physically push her ( very humiliating) into the “man trap” entrance, squeeze in and try to open the door on the other side. Eventually when I got her in, the staff refused to assist me with giving me signing rights to her account even though I had the relevant FICA documents and they insisted that they only accept copies of bank accounts as FICA documents. This is unacceptable because other banks accept utility and other accounts. This means that I have to bring her back. When leaving the bank, they refused to open the door so I could wheel her. Instead I had to rely on another customer to help me push her through the “ mantrap” exit. Unfortunately she will have to go through this humiliating ordeal again unless ABSA do something about this.
