Absa bank employees stole my R1000!!

Absa Bank refuses to refund R1000 taken off my account that the teller machine never dispensed!

So I tried to draw R3000 from the Hout Bay teller machine. The machine gave me a "Chip damaged message" and no money. I tried again with a lesser amount, thinking I'll do 3X R1000. The first R1000 got dispensed but then the second gave me the "Chip damaged" error again. I decided to leave it at that. But when I checked my account I saw 2X R1000 being taken off!!! I was annoyed but went to the bank the very next day, logged a complaint (Ref no ********** ), showed them the PROOF by way of the teller machine slips and they said it would be dealt with.

No-one called me back. When I still saw no refund in my account, I went to the bank AGAIN and the nice helpful lady there informed me they closed the complaint, because the teller machine tal****. I was fuming!!! I don't care that the machine money tal****!! That just proves some of your people ***** the outstanding teller machine money!!! So I went back to the bank AGAIN today and escalated the issue. It's rediculous, how can ABSA treat their clients like that!! The slips prove I never got the second R1000!! I am fuming!!

Well I got a repsonse from Nthabiseng Sibande, saying "investigations revealed that the atm withdrawal was successful". Sir with all due respect, the slip said in both cases WHEN THE MACHINE DID NOT DISPENSE MONEY "Chip damaged, contact no on card or visit nearest branch". I did NOT get the R1000 you deducted from my account!!! I cannot see how you can just say the withdrawal was successfull when the slip with date and time clearly states I DID NOT!! Nicole from Absa in the Waterfront immediately agreed with me when she saw the evidence, it is clear as day. Do I now really have to get lawers involved? It is a matter of principle, I cannot fathom that the bank treats their clients so shoddily. Are you saying I am lying?? And the computer is lying?? What investigation exactly are you talking about? I WANT MY MONEY BACK PLEASE.

Oh, Nthabiseng Sibande, i just remembered another thing which might be relevant for your further investigation, Nicole from Waterfront ABSA said my ABSA card was faulty and she had to recall it, destroy it and issued me a new debit card. Could it be that the faulty debit card caused this at all? Either way, I feel it's the bank's fault and I should be refunded the R1000 taken off without being dispensed.

Thank you kindly

Daniela Hess
