Absa Bank Customer Care does NOT care!!

My sister has banked with Absa bank for many many years. She is a frail elderly person with a chronic disease. She has no children and lives alone.

ABSA lent her a substantial amount of money , nearly R100,000-00!-as far as I know!! She is too ill to work enter only income is the government pension fund plus a small interest amount that you receive every month from her retirement annuity.

She certainly does not have the means to pay this back unless she sells the house in which she lives .

She is totally distraught about the situation and needs to seek more medical attention., which she cannot afford. She has already attempted to commit suicide once because of this debt and it is a very worrying situation.

I live very far away and I am her only relative. We have not been close for many years. but she has now appealed to me to assist her because she does not what else to do.

Absa keep on calling her, they never write , always call so there is no record of what happens on the call.

I visited Herm**** where she lived about 3 weeks ago and she gave me a Power of Attorney over her bank accounts. I have written to ABSA customer care centre but I get no response either.

Surely there some law against the bank lending this kind of money to someone who obviously could never pay back and also charging up to 27% interest rates!!

Can you help me, Hello Peter, or can you advise me if there's any government ombudsman who can assist my sister with this.

We will really be grateful for any advice that we can get regarding how to handle this matter
