ABSA BANK ARE *******!!

I recently finalized my financial emigration, got a tax clearance from SARS and in order to receive this you have to financially cut your ties with South Africa. Making this decision is one of the hardest emotional experiences. I’ve been trying to close my ABSA personal checking account, credit card and Business checking account for months, prior to my financial emigration. I do not earn a salary in South Africa, all my cards were paid up, debit orders cancelled! I’ve been trying for months to get my mom to become my POA, months of stress and unnecessary expenses. Been pushed from “pillar to post” ABSA sending me the incorrect documents, after spending a small fortune getting the documents notarized and couriered to South Africa. I’ve sent several emails requesting closure, calls on skype to ABSA. Passed from one department to another!! Frustrating is an understatement! They tell me I need to go into a branch, that’s not possible - I live in the USA. Finally get a General POA sent to my mom and finally she has access to close my accounts. The shock to hear I’ve been handed over and now will incur legal fees on my business account and then I have to pay R5000 on my personal cheque account because ABSA charged me months and months of bank charges! Could they not see that the account has not been active since May 2019? This is total thievery!!! They refuse to “freeze” anything and yet I’m incurring astronomical bank fees!! Shocking service! All my emails went unheard! Yet they sent me incorrect forms and POA documents, but they still charge me and now hand me over!! If I ever do come back to South Africa, I’ll be blacklisted, yet the fees keep on been debited off an inactive account, using up and going over my overdraft! 27 years I’ve been a good customer and this is how they treat you! ABSA YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!! My husband just had to send an email to FNB and they closed his account!! This could of been sorted out if ABSA GOT THEIR DUCKS IN A ROW, but no they GIVE YOU FALSE INFORMATION!
