ABSA allows *****ulent debit orders on your account

Hi

What I have noticed in last 3-4 years I will get debit orders coming off my account that are small and not mine. Happened a few years ago, happened late 2023 again. When enquiring ABSA the source they come from the most random places with little to no info available.

Usually only notice after several months as I do not comb my statement every month. So I lose a few bucks every month, by the way ABSA wont refund you. They actually charge you again to cancel a debit order you did not create.

When checking with ABSA they say I approved the Debit order. But I know I did not as I do not sign up for new services regularly, the account is not used on internet banking, has very few debit orders, i actually setup recurring payments instead of granting debit orders as a principle. Also requested that all future debit orders need some sort of 2 factor authentication, either ABSA App, or a call, or something. They have no such service.

I then requested ABSA to provide the info where I gave the consent, every debit order the bank must receive forms and documents where I have stipulated and provided permission for the debit order. I have requested this from ABSA, it is my data and according to POPIA I have the right to access it. But also I need to ensure someone is not creating ***** with my identity somehow.

ABSA created a case C-***6 where they said the person attending this case will provide this info. Several days after logging the case number they just close it and say I gave permission for the debit order. But they provide no documents as requested. So ABSA say I approved the debit order nut share no info/documents.

I told them open it again and send me the info I requested. They responded I must go into a branch. They basically giving me the run around, cause the branch is really not going to have a copy of some random submission for a debit order they claim I did.

Also you would think they would want to look into this to ensure someone isn't creating *****ulent debit orders.

So I would recommend everyone check your statements, you may have random debit orders coming off. ABSA will not protect you from debit order ***** nor provide info demonstrating they provide a good financial service.

They will just let your funds be drained.

Hi

Just giving an update here. So someone from ABSA contacted me, very polite. Looked into my query. My main query was show me where I gave consent for the debit order as I know I did not

Took a few weeks for ABSA to find the actual consent forms for the debit orders. After reviewing them I informed the person they not from me and they ***** and asked how they will refund me and tell me how they will prevent this in the future. I have been palmed off and asked to log a ***** ticket with another team.

Some info for others that may read this, for someone to create a *****ulent debit order on your account
- They just need to fill in a one pager
- the 2 debit orders I questioned each had a 1 pager form from unknown companies.
- each one pager was the exact debit order form, they just change the logo on the top and company names
- No copy of my id
- The one pager has no info of services
- The companies that apparently provide the services are Gold Star Tracking , also Blitz Protection (Pty) Ltd. So if you se this on your statements it is probably ABSA allowing them to take your money.
- the signatures on both forms are different and not mine, nor look like any of mine. So the bank does not check this

So all I can say is if you think your money is safe at ABSA think again. You just need to fill in a one pager to get funds deducted without you knowing. No verifications or additional checks are done.

They also have very little interest in correcting the problem

Hope the info helps others.

Just another small update, was told to call

"Please contact our ***** Department at ***"

Contacted them and they only deal with transaction *****, not debit orders.

So yes, passed the buck to a dead end.

Does not look like ABSA is worried about investigating, seeing if other customers may be affected, or how to prevent this in the future.

Basically, who cares, not their money

Hi

Literally 7-8 months later I have unwanted and unapproved debit orders on my accounts. AGAIN!

One from gold star, one from vintage

Called Absa ***** line, they basically saying this line is not for cancelling debit orders. But I actually want to report that random debit orders get logged against my account which is *****, they not interested

They asked me to do as menu, so when u call ***** line says press * to cancel debit orders, then goes to other menu but no option there matches cancelling debit orders

In Absa app has option to cancel debit orders but says to cancel permanently must call service provider but the service provider in my case is ***** so they not exactly going to say, hey call me here

So again ABSA does nothing to protect debit order ***** but also make it difficult to speak to anyone

When I requested above the original forms to load debit orders was one pager that anyone can submit, they just submit a form with your details, no extra docs of company, company details, etc.

Also previously had zero interest checking all debit orders from same companies to see if it affects more absa customers as I am confident is a wide ****

I would appreciate if ABSA send me a direct line of a human that can cancel these debit orders

I know ABSA won’t refund my money as they didn’t in the past, I know ABSA will also charge me to reverse something I did not approve

But anyway, call me to
1) reverse the *****ulent debit orders
2) discuss how you will stop it in future
3) send me copies of the supposed approval forms submitted for the debit order for my records

Thanks for losing my money
