On 2025-11-12 my father was ****med thru a Facebook Ad for an Investment opportunity. During this process, my fathers banking information was obtained by the ****mers.
On 2025-11-13 over R50000 was withdrawn from my fathers account. After he reported the ***** to ABSA, his account was blocked by ABSA to such an extend that he, as a 88 year old man, had to ask permission from ABSA bank whenever he needed funds from his account.
If you are serious about your funds, I would rather give ABSA a hard pass due to the following:
1) If you want to order R150 worth of groceries from Checkers, you must authorize the transaction on your ABSA App. But if R50 000 are moved from your account, no such authority is not needed.
2) If you want to log into your account, you must approve this transaction, but not always and not if your account is accessed from a different IP number outside South Africa.
3) After the ***** is reported to ABSA they will tell you that ***** has taken place but that they dont see anything on their service logs withhout providing you access to such logs.
From this experience the following is clear: 1) ABSA can not safeguard the funds of their clients from cyber attacks. 2) The CEO of ABSA does not understand cyber security in 2025 and can not provide guidance in this regard. 3) If your funds are lost through *****, ABSA wont care and will only tell you that it is you problem. 4) ABSA does not adhear to the POPPI, Cyber Crimes or Financial Services Acts and does not care to safe guard the information and funds of their clients. 5) If ABSA can not safe guard your funds, it is impossible for ABSA to safe guard your personal information. 6) ABSA is just another useless African company.
