ABSA ****

You may find my review and rating are contradictory. I have always used ABSA Cresta and had great service, unfortunately we had a very cruel and sad incident happen recently. My father is 78 years old so when it comes to technology etc, he can struggle. 2 nights ago, he received a call, the caller ID said ABSA ***** hotline, at first he ignored it and redialed the number off his landlines, and the number was the valid number for Absa *****. So when his cell phone rang a second time saying absa *****, he answered

The lady on the other dide identified herself as a bank employee going by the name 'LORRAINE' She spoken excellent English and came across as very professional. She had all my fathers details and told him that the ***** department had picked up suspicious activity on his account. In order to keep his money safe he needed to open up a new absa account whereby he could transfer his funds so that the so called ****mers couldn't access it. Please do not judge my dad, at his age, everything she said came across as valid and professional. She proceeded to explain how to transfer his funds into this new 'safe" account. Long story short, by the time she was finished with him, he had transferred his life earnings of R500,000. He has been left with absolutely nothing. It breaks my heart, my mom and his wife of 57 years recently passed and I just thought 'WHY?' He is the most remarkable trusting man who did not deserve this. We are almost certain that this so called LORRAINE probably works for Absa, she does the talking while her hackers work fast and efficiently on their computers. We have followed procedure and the case is being investigated BUT who do we trust now? I ask children to educate their elderly parents about these ****s. Such things should not happen and I am horrified it did. I have now lost any faith or trust in ABSA due to this act of cruelty to a man that worked his life to save his money, LORRAINE, or whoever you are, you are a despicable human being. To my dad, I ask him to stay strong and know he did nothing wrong.
