ABSA

ABSA Bank....... I have been attempting to close my Mothers ABSA credit card for three months. Unfortunately my Mother is unable to run her own affairs any longer and I have Power of Attorney to assist her. I have been trying for three months to close this account with ABSA. She has not used this card for the last year but every month she is charged exorbitant Bank charges and interest. The Bank will not recognise the Power of Attorney as this has not been drawn up by the Banks Legal department..... seems they do not recognise the laws of the land but have rewritten there own laws. After many visits and long, long waits at the information counter (an hour was my longest wait) and being HELPED!!! by an assortment of clueless personnel, every one with different views... I have now been told that the account cannot be closed as there is an outstanding balance. I cant win because every time I pay the balance new charges are added before the account can be closed........... today they have taken a copy of my Lawful Power of Attorney to send to there Legal Department and then they have told me I can request that the charges be reversed.... hmmmm... scared to even go there.... JUST CLOSE THE ACCOUNT
