7 Weeks and i still dont have an banking account
Background: My company was granted a bond through ABSA Home Loans, and one of the conditions for receiving the bond is to open a transactional business account with ABSA. I have been attempting to complete this process since February 25, 2025, but despite multiple visits and calls, I have yet to finalize the account opening. Timeline of Events: • 25 February 2025: Completed an online application for a business account but could not complete it due to a malfunctioning dropdown menu. Ref: RBD-998406 • 26 February 2025: Received an email with additional documents to complete. I signed and returned them the same day. • 27 February 2025: Received an email instructing me to visit the branch to finalize the application. Upon visiting, the business consultant at the Clearwater Branch was unsure why I was sent to the branch and called the online team. They stated they would contact me to complete the process. Ref: RBD-998406 • 28 February 2025: Received a call from the online consultant but was unavailable (on the golf course) and requested a callback for the following Monday. • 5 March 2025: Finally received the call. The consultant advised that the account could not be completed due to the business receiving over 80% of income from NSFAS. She mentioned that the branch consultant would assist further. • 6 March 2025: Visited the branch again. I was told to return the next day but refused without a clear timeframe. I was then provided with the business card for Tumelo Shabangu and instructed to schedule an appointment. I emailed her immediately but received no response. • 10 March 2025: Sent a follow-up email. Still no response. • 10 March 2025: Managed to reach Tumelo by phone, and we agreed to meet on Wednesday, 12 March at 10:30 AM. • 12 March 2025: Arrived at the branch, only to be informed that Tumelo was off sick and would return the following day. I insisted on meeting with another banker, who confirmed that the account had been opened, and that Tumelo just needed to send the documents for signature. She also emailed Tumelo to inform her of my visit. • 13 March 2025: No response from Tumelo. • 14 March 2025: Called Tumelo, and she promised the documents would be sent by the end of the day. However, nothing was received. • 17 March 2025: Sent a follow-up email. No response. • 17 March 2025: Called twice and left voicemails. No response.
• 18 March 2025: Called twice and left voicemails. No response. • 18 March 2025: Submitted a complaint via the action line. Case C-***8 • 19 March 2025: Received a call from the area manager Cornelius Coetzer, who assured me he would investigate and provide feedback. • 20 March 2025: Followed up with the manager, who informed me that the issue was being followed up and that I would receive the documents soon. • 24 March 2025: Tried calling Tumelo and the area manager. Later that day, Tumelo called to apologize for the delays (due to hospitalization) and sent the documents for signature, which I immediately signed. • 27 March 2025: Called to request proof of banking details. Tumelo confirmed she would arrange this. • 28 March 2025: Called again to inquire about the delay and was informed that my account verification was incomplete and had been referred to the High-Risk Department due to NSFAS funding student rentals. • 3 April 2025: Called and spoke to the manager, who promised to provide feedback but did not follow up. • 4 April 2025: Attempted multiple calls to both Tumelo and the manager but received no feedback. Later that day, Tumelo called to inform me that they were still awaiting feedback on the due diligence process. Current Status: Despite my persistent efforts, I am still waiting for the account to be opened, and the process has now dragged on for over six weeks. I am disappointed by the lack of urgency and communication, especially considering that I am simply following ABSA’s instructions, not my own preference, to open this account as part of the bond condition. Feedback and Concerns: The lack of timely feedback, coupled with poor customer service, has been extremely frustrating. My repeated attempts to get clear and consistent communication have been met with delays or no response at all. It is clear that customer service does not seem to be a priority, and I am left feeling that my case is not being handled with the necessary urgency. Request: I respectfully request your immediate assistance in resolving this matter and expediting the opening of my business account. Please provide clear communication and a definitive timeline for when I can expect this process to be completed.
