1 year and 6 months later

My husband passed away in June 2015. Since we had been living in another country, we had decided to put a few thousand Rand into his Absa account as a fixed deposit, instead of both of us having separate savings. In July 2015, I went into an Absa branch (Brackenfell) and submitted all documents as requested to receive our savings. I was given a Letter of Authority from the SA Court as the executor of the estate.

I then tried to continue my life and only chased up the claim a year later - only to be told that I needed to sumbit all documents again, as one was not the original certified document, only a copy!
So, I did that on 3 November 2016. I am still waiting, after being told it would take 5-8 business days to clear. Every time I call, I am told a new story, but the last 4 times I have called, I have been told the documents are with the FICA departmnet and that there is nothing that can be done. How long doe sit take to FICA a perfect set of documents with every stamp/certification/authority required on them???

Last week, I was told my case had been "escalated" - a ******* word if ever I heard one! I was offered an "escalation" again yesterday and when I said it was already supposed to have been escalated, I was then asked for my phone number and email for a manager to call me. Nothing. Just absolutely nothing.

And I'm not talking tens of thousands of Rand here, I'm talking less than 20K!! What are you doing with my money, Absa? You're like a bunch of *******, by the sounds of things, reading other people's stories with the same complaint. Who do I go to next? Who has authority over these *******?!

I want my savings, and I want it now - I have two small children who have lost their dad and the support he provides and I need our savings!!! Absolutely disgusted with your attitude and excuses.

Problem solved! The next time I called Absa Estates, somebody dealt with me as though I was not another number. I emailed a couple of documents through and I have now been paid out.

Thanks for sorting that out so quickly.
