Andrew Beldon – AB Restorations / Brood Construction – Failure to Refund for Substandard Work I contracted Andrew Beldon of AB Restorations (also trading as Brood Construction) to install a cement screed floor. Unfortunately, the work delivered was substandard. Shortly after installation, the cement screed began flaking and breaking apart, making it unsuitable as a base for the intended fibreglass flooring. Due to the poor quality of the screed, the entire floor had to be removed, resulting in additional cost and delay. After raising the issue with Andrew Beldon, he acknowledged the problem and agreed to refund R6,750 for the defective work. However, despite repeated promises to refund the money, no payment has been made. Below is a summary of the communication timeline: 26 January 2026 – I followed up regarding the refund. 28 January 2026 – Andrew asked what the amount was again and claimed he had lost information on his phone. I confirmed the amount of R6,750. Late January – February 2026 – Multiple follow-ups were sent requesting confirmation of payment. 18 February 2026 – He stated he would contact someone regarding payment and provide feedback. Throughout February 2026 – Continued follow-ups with no payment received. 2 March 2026 – He responded saying he would sort it out “now now.” 11 March 2026 – When asked again about the refund, he responded “Naturally”, but still did not confirm any payment date. Despite numerous polite attempts to resolve the matter directly, including phone calls and messages over more than six weeks, the refund that was promised has still not been paid. This situation has been extremely frustrating. Not only was the work defective, but the ongoing unfulfilled promises and lack of follow-through have left me with no choice but to escalate the matter further. I would advise others to exercise caution when dealing with Andrew Beldon / AB Restorations, as commitments made regarding rectification and refunds have not been honoured in this case.
