PayFast absolutely pointless

Is there a decent alternative to PayFast? Why do so many companies use the service? Is it because they accept anyone without checking their credentials? Buying items online last week, both times money taken instantly but no goods available (Manicaa and Brands Unlimited both ********). Return payments less than payments made.
