Worst bed nightmare
We checked in to unit 41 on the 4th December 2023. Party of 4 adults and a 5 month old baby girl. Now the first impressions last and that was the beautiful surroundings, the waterfall on the outside and the peace, finally I can think in peace and enjoy. Unfortunately that only lasted for one day. On Tuesday night my daughter put my grandchild to sleep and we started making arrangements for the next day which will start with a hike on your beautiful grounds, breakfast then heading to quad bike and elephant rides. Around 22.30 we are ready to go to bed and my daughter discovers bed bugs in the bed my grand daughter slept in. Now earlier in the day we reported that the phone in the unit is not working, at this point the phone is still not working. ....
I phoned reception and got hold of Donna, who informed me that she is alone and cannot come to our unit, there is no night manager on duty BUT she will phone him. Later we got in our car and drove to reception, at this point my child is sleeping in her car seat. Donna informed me they do not have any free standing units available, I insisted that is not good enough and needed to talk to the manager as I cannot allow my children to sleep in those beds. We do not have these things at home. Why pay to come and sleep in them. Wade then informed Donna to let us use unit 602, now at this time of the night we must move to unit 602 with my sister who is in a wheelchair. The second problem is unit 602 has stairs and is not wheelchair friendly. Now I must state the bedbugs were only in the second bedroom because I checked the main bedroom. We ended up moving the kids to unit 602 for the night. At this point I was thinking of checking out at midnight. Thanks to the security guy Adolf he was a star and very patient with us. Thank you.
The morning of Wednesday, now this is where I really got mad. Your pest control lady and 2 managers (Wade incl) came to the unit to inspect. The pest control lady turned to my daughter and said just wipe it off and sleep because it's not bedbugs. Now I was under the impression we checked into a 5 star family friendly resort but at that moment I felt more like I was standing in a cheap roadside formula 1 hotel. The managers just stood there and did not offer any other solution to our problem. Now at this point this statement smells like a racial statement, because you black you can sleep in these things!!!! would she have made the same statement if it was white guest? At this point I decided to be the bigger person and opted to check out as the holiday is ruined now.The two managers that were present did not have the ***** to say anything and just look at us. The pest control lady gave the cleaner 2 cans of foggers to defog the room once we left.
This trip cost me R800 rand for all my laundry as I stopped on arrival and dropped all the laundry that was in the car as it will not enter my house with bedbugs from Kruger Park resort and an additional R900 to valet my car and the baby car seat.
The reason for writing this lengthy email is to let you know that resorts excell due to word of mouth marketing and mine was extremely bad. from the way it was handled to the attitude of your managers and pest control lady and that I will not recommend this resort to anyone else. What was supposed to be my grandchild's first SA holiday turned into her first SA nightmare.
Hope this will inspire you to do something and manage the units better and treat your beds.
