Poor admin and Caution to prospective customers
My family and I stayed at this accommodation during December-January 2020. The place is ideally located in Margate with good proximity to the beach. I would however caution any potential customers on the administration they can expect: (1) The pictures on the websites are dated and the unit needs maintenance and renewal of fixtures. (2) The contact details on the invoice are “not reachable” as it is listed as Jade but eventually you may receive correspondence from the actual agent – Phumzile. (3) We also had electrical appliances like the toaster and air conditioners tripping the power frequently. (4) You will receive warning to sign the inventory list on booking but when we arrived this was not evident despite the numerous emails to the Agent to rectify this – CAUTION do not take occupation as this is utilized to fully deplete your breakage fee. Also check the linen towels etc..; take pictures if possible. Per point 1 the unit needs maintenance, and the owner and Agent will use the breakage fee to improve the upkeep.
Even though it was a welcome break during COVID, the admin left a bad experience and i would regrettably not use this agent or property again.
In summary, Mr Naicker and his family left my unit with severely damaged linen which I couldn't save after several deep washes. I sent him a proposal that I will absorb half of the fees and deduct the other half from his breakage deposit. I furthermore advised that I will absorb and incur all the cleaning costs which I did. It's a pity that I'm unable to attach images as this will speak for itself. Mr Naicker felt griefed as a result of this and then threatened to damage my reputation which I have kept for years with the same tenants returning year after year.
For clarity, I would like to respond to each point below:
1) Other than the patio cushions and linen in the bedrooms which has been changed, my unit looks like the images on the website - Am I expected to change the photos with every linen and pillow change?
2) "Contact details "not reachable" - what's the meaning of the inverted brackets? My unit was managed by both Jade and Phumzile. The number listed is the contact number that is valid and works. The agency corresponded to Mr Naicker. When dealing with a company or agency, do you always speak to the same person or is it possible for 2 or more to manage a booking?
3) The Aircon was off at the DB board. After explaining to Mr Naicker that the switch must be on, the Aircon worked. Regarding the toaster, toasters do break. When I was made aware of the broken toaster, I requested the Cleaning company to replace it immediately. Unfortunately with it being peak season, the Cleaning Company didn't get to replace the toaster as promised, but we were also not too concerned since we were informed by Mr Naicker's wife that we shouldn't worry as they managed with the toast making.
4) Mr Naicker is correct with the Inventory list which was not present and this I had addressed with the Cleaning Company. As a result of the Inventory List not being available, I accepted accountability and accommodated Mr Naicker by not charging him for two missing items. I did however have a concern with my visibly badly damaged linen which the Cleaning Company submitted photos of upon Mr Naicker's departure. The linen was full of brightly colored sticky residue of something that could not be removed. As explained above, I offered to absorb half of the replacement costs. to compensate for the issues with the toaster. I honored this and refunded the balance of his deposit.
