Overpriced part prices

I have given my BMW 530D on 27-11-2019 to 3 Service BMW. It should be done an oil change, change of the oil filter and a new micro filter installed. In the afternoon of the same day I received a call from the workshop that the rear brake pads had to be replaced together with the brake pads.

So far so good. However, I have emphasized that the car drove over 255.000 km and therefore the spare parts should not cost more than absolutely necessary. At 28-11-2019 I received a call at app 16:30 that the car can be picked up. That was too late for me and I was only able to fetch the car on early Friday afternoon.

Then came the surprise: instead of the presumed R6 000 about the workshop R11 308 demanded the reason they would only use original BMW parts.

All in all, the price difference is more than R5000 (!) - without warning.

Every single position of the bill is overstated. They did not have the time to do any documentation in the service manual. They spent their time printing their advertising on my rear window. Just some examples: Brake disks rear 2.584 instead of app R1.400, brake pads R1.525 instead of R550 – and that adds up. I think they must let the customer know upfront what the cost implications are, at the end of the day the customer pays the bill and not this garage.

It is my decision if I want to have installed none genuine parts or not. If they don’t do it – ok then I still have the decision to bring the car to another garage.

And btw I was not aware when I handed in my car of their statement only using BMW parts. I would have brought it to some other place.
