Usage??

I took out a contract via MTN for my niece. I took out insurance on that phone with 24/7 mobility. She dropped and damaged her phone. When I sent a claim through my claim was declined because the date given for the when the phone was damaged was wrong. The fact of the matter is the phone is damaged and cant be used but because of giving the wrong date the claim was declined. Is that even a valid reason for declining a claim? All that MTN gave me was a one piece of paper with my details and the phone being covered. There were no terms and conditions on that piece of paper and now I'm being told to refer to the terms and conditions that I never received. I'm very disappointed in this whole issue really.

Hello nkazi,

Thank you for bringing the above matter to our attention,

Please be advised that the underwriter is bound by the terms of the policy and can only proceed with a claim in the event that all obligations of the policy have been met.
On the 07/07/2014 an sms was sent to your device with a link to your policy wording. This message was successfully delivered to the device.

The claim form states that the damage to the handset occurred on the 21/05/2015. The insured number was last used in the handset on the 12/05/2015. The claim has therefore been declined as the insured number was not in use in the handset at the time of damage.

As you have advised that the date provided on the claim form is incorrect I will re-forward this matter to the underwriters office for further review.

Feedback will be provided from their office once the investigation has been completed.

Kind Regards

Megan Hope
