False expectations

I have insurance witjh 24hr Mobility and I am covered for accidental damage and theft.

I work in the entertainment industry and my phone was ****** from my place of work. When my phone was ******, I reported it to 24hr Mobility and they said that because I was in the entertainment industry, my claim would not be honoured.

I have looked at the contract and nowhere does it stipulate that I am not covered at my place of work.

They are quite happy to take my debit order premiums but fail to honour the contract.

This is clearly a case for the insurance ombudsman, moreover a case of negligence by the broker will be reported to the FSP.

Hello JossMcG,

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

Please be advised that the policy wording states:
At all times you must take reasonable steps to safeguard the MOBILE DEVICE from loss, damage or theft.

You are not covered for:
ix) Loss or damage arising from the MOBILE DEVICE where it is left exposed in a public place, place of recreation, office, mall or social occasion where it is vulnerable for easy removal or damage.

On the claim form received as well as with the communication with your underwriter; It was advised that the handset was left unattended by the computer, on the counter, at the bar where you where working.
This clearly describes the above exclusion regarding the handset not being safe guarded and as being left unattended in a public area.

The underwriter who processes the claim is bound by the policy wording and has therefore had no other option but to repudiate this claim.

Should you feel unfairly treated you are welcome to approach the short term insurance ombudsman who is there to ensure fair business practice.

Kind Regards

Megan Hope
