Declined claim

I have been with 24hour mobility for over two years and paying my premium every month without fail, I recently lost my mobile of which has been insured with the company , now my claim has been declined due to a sim card which i had a problem with the service provider and i changed my number which i am entitle to do. I have insured a mobile not a sim card as they claim and. I am very upset that my claim was not approved as i have insured my phone not a sim card. I had a problem with my service provider not my insurance and i fail to understand if i insured the phone or the sim card which it was not mentioned to me.

While you add it they still went on to debit my account and on which grounds i dont know or what are they insuring now.

Hello pcmarule,

Please be advised that in order to have a valid claim you need to adhere to all of the policy obligations.
The underwriter, who is authorized to approve or decline the claim, is bound by the policy wording which states:

It is important to note that your MOBILE DEVICE is only covered whilst being used with the SIMCARD encoded with the TELEPHONE number listed on your Schedule. You can change your cell phone number at any time but your MOBILE DEVICE will only be covered if your broker, Pinnacle Marketing (Pty) Ltd has been notified of the change.

The two previous claims on this policy where approved by the underwriter as the correct SIM was in use in the handset at the time that the claim occurred as required by the policy.

The underwriter has no option but to decline this claim as the obligations of the policy where not met.

Should you feel unfairly treated you would need to take this matter up with the short term insurance ombudsman who is there to ensure fair business practice. Only the ombudsman has the authority to over turn the decsision of the underwriter should they agree that you have been unfairly treated.

Kind regards

Megan Hope
