Claim application declined

On the 25 June 2015 I lost my cell phone, immediately tried contact MTN in order for them block the phone. I couldn't get hold of MTN as their on strike. I went to an MTN store who advised me to complete the claim application and send it through to 24 hour. 24 Hour Mobility got back to me after receiving my claim. The lady I spoke to indicated that I didn't complete my application fully and I indicated that I cannot get hold of MTN because of the strike and I need the ITC number in order for me to report at the police station that I lost a phone. She assured me that my application will be pending until I get all the required information and they understand that MTN is on strike

Hello Petez123,

Thank you for bringing the above to our attention.
The insurer is aware of the MTN strike causing delays in obtaining the ITC number and does take that into consideration.

I have looked into your claim and the claim was declined as the insured number listed on the policy schedule was not used in the handset at the date of the incident as per your claim form, the 25th of June 2015. I looked on an MTN system which shows that the number was last used in your handset up until the 2nd of May 2015.
Due to this, the underwriter has decline the claim as the policy states the below:

It is important to note that your MOBILE DEVICE is only covered whilst being used with the
SIMCARD encoded with the TELEPHONE number listed on your Schedule.
You can change your cell phone number at any time but your MOBILE DEVICE will only be covered if
your broker, Pinnacle Marketing (Pty) Ltd has been notified of the change.

I will also email you information in regards to this for your perusal.

Kind regards,

Ruark Jewell
