Cellphone claim declined

I didnt use the phone for a long time,it was used by my brother and I was using another phone until I decide to take the Sony z2 along with Me on the 26 Dec 15 as back up for battery to the park.I switched sims from the phone I was used to using and put it in my Sony z2 as the battery of the phone I was using was dead n i charged it with a power bank.on my way back from the car outside the park coming inside the park I found out that both phones were lost with the powerbank.I claimed and only to be told that my claim is declined because the sim that is read and last used is my brother's and that I must prove that I put in my sim in the Sony z2 on the 26 Dec 15.I do not understand why is it my problem that MTN couldn't pick up that I put in my sim card in that phone for a few min before it got lost.<br> I am now expected to pay for a phone that I do not have, this is not fair I am very angry and disappointed with my insurance cause I pay it montlhy without skipping.it means ive been paying insurance for nothing.

Hello Nonku21,

Thank you for bringing the above complaint to our attention.

Please be advised that in order to have a valid claim all of the obligations of the policy need to be met.

Policy Wording:
It is important to note that the MOBILE DEVICE is only covered whilst being used with the SIMCARD encoded with telephone number listed on your Schedule. The policy allows for up to 2 numbers to be listed on the schedule. Either one of these listed numbers must be used in the insured device at all times.

Your insured number shows that it was last used 04/02/2015 with your insured device. On your motivation you have also clearly advised that another number was being used in the handset which was never insured.

The underwriter is bound by the terms of the policy and has therefore had no other option but to decline this claim.

If you feel that you have been unfairly treated, please contact the Short Term Insurance Ombudsman ***or ***

We always endeavour to assist our clients where ever possible and know how frustrating it can be to be without your mobile device; I am sorry that your claim is not being processed due to policy requirements not met.
