Policy Elapsed due to debit system failure

i'm not sure where to begin but here goes, Can anyone tell me this, how is a company's system error become the client's problem???

Anyway, heres my complaint, in Aug/Sept 2014 i took 3 funeral policies with 21st century, my brother's, my parent's and mine and they started debiting my accounts on the 29th September 2014, then last month( Feb 2017) i realised that only 2 debit orders have been going through from 21st and i phoned to enquire and i was initially told that they can only pick up 2 policies then later on was told that MY policy had elapsed, and i ask what they mean, how? and i was told that there hasnt been payment on it since Sept 2016, not this is impossible as i always have funds in my account for my debit orders, then later on through their own investigations i was informed that they had a system failure of some sort where somehow my policy debit order stopped running and so my policy elapsed and im no longer covered!

I was then told that for me to be covered i would have to fully backpay all those months from the day my policy stopped debiting (from Sept 2016 to Feb 2017) and i refused and told them They need to make sure that in Feb going forward they need to make sure that the debit order goes through and that i will not have a waiting period because according my understanding my waiting period is over and them having that system problem has nothing to do with me and they are point blank refusing. I mean they had a system problem which they did not inform any of their members and i'm supposed to suffer for it??? they must eithe sort this out or give me my money back for all the months i've been paying for this policy and i will gladly go elsewhere!!!
